A cheap keyboard doesn’t have to be low quality

Shopping for the best cheap keyboard might seem like a contradiction but actually quite a few different cheap keyboards are available that are highly rated in consumer reviews.  The best cheap keyboard is of course not only cheap, but it should also fit your needs perfectly.  To be honest, you’re not going to find a cheap keyboard with built in media controls or other fancy doodads, you will, however, find a good, solid inexpensive keyboard that does what it’s supposed to do.

What features should I look for when trying to buy the best cheap keyboard for the money?

First off, like I said above don’t even bother looking for anything fancy, it’ll just drive up the price, which kind of defeats the purpose of shopping for a good cheap keyboard.  Now, if you do find fancy features be aware that if the price is still low, the quality/construction is probably quite poor, so the rule when shopping for cheap keyboards is keep it simple.

  • Make sure the keyboard has 107 keys – This is pretty much standard nowadays but just make sure.
  • Look for a USB 2.0 connection – If you don’t pay attention here you might buy one with a keyboard plug, which nobody uses anymore.
  • Make sure the keyboard is standard size – There are some mini ones out there that for me anyway, are just too small to type on.
  • When you’re ready to buy – make sure the shipping charge isn’t more than the cost of the keyboard.
  • Stick with a wired cheap keyboard – Cheap wireless is bound to be buggy and unreliable, don’t take the risk.
  • Make sure the store you buy it from has a good return policy since some cheap keyboards are notorious for returns.

So, as you can see there isn’t really too much to be aware of here, like I said above, keep it simple and you’ll be fine.

Let’s take a look at some of the best cheap keyboards available

Here’s a few of the best cheap keyboards available, I linked Amazon here because of their great return policy, definitely a consideration when shopping for a cheap keyboard.  As you’ll see these are all rated 4 stars or better and cost less than 15 dollars.

Amazon cheap keyboard

This Amazon keyboard is just about the best cheap keyboard available on the market today.

Next we have the AmazonBasics keyboard, in my opinion the absolute best of the best cheap keyboards available.  Amazon hit a home run with this one in price, quality and features.  This one has a nearly perfect rating, 4.5 stars and is very good quality.  It actually has media controls built in and is low profile.  Take a good look at this one if you’re serious about getting the best cheap keyboard out there.

Here’s a link to check out the reviews, I’m sure you’ll be impressed.

AmazonBasics Wired Keyboard (Black)

One thing I should mention is that shipping is always free on Amazon when you spend at least $25, so if you pick up some additional items this is an even better bargain.

Cheap keyboard by logitech

This Logitech keyboard is one of the best cheap keyboards to get if you have kids.

Finally we have the Logitech keyboard K120.  A very simple design, nothing really special here.  It is spill resistant however, a possible plus especially if you have kids.

Low price and very good reviews, another real winner here.  It’s low profile and full size so no surprises either.

Here’s the link to check it out, like the Amazon keyboard above shipping will be free is the total purchase is at least $25.

Logitech Keyboard K120

As you can see I’ve only looked at three keyboards here, why?  well, we’re looking for the best cheap keyboards, not the mediocre cheap keyboards.  There are many, many more keyboards out there, some even cheaper than these.  I just don’t think it’s good to look at keyboards rated under 3 stars by consumers.

So there you have it.  If you have kids, go for the Logitech, want some media keys, the Amazon is the best cheap keyboard for you, type a lot and want some durability, well go for the Microsoft keyboard.

Getting the best cheap keyboard doesn’t mean spending even more than $12, you just need to know what it is you need and where to look for it.
