Good Free Antivirus Software – Just download and try them

Protect your PC with a good free antivirus software program

A good free antivirus software program is only a download away.  There are lots of programs to try but only a few are really worth installing.  It seems there are new virus attacks every day, not too mention spamming, phishing and other ways to turn your online experience into a nightmare.  There really isn’t any reason to buy the so-called commercial antivirus programs when there are good free antivirus software packages available.  Read on to learn which are good enough to install on your PC.

Avira anti virus personal edition. To me this is a really good free anti virus software. It’s extremely light on system resources and has good virus detection capabilities.  Unfortunately it doesn’t include any email scanning or spyware protection, so make sure you run Adaware too.

Avast home edition. This is great for the online or power gamer.  This one features an unusual media player style interface that some folks seem to like better. This free anti virus program is quite good since it has anti root kit and a free anti virus spyware module built in.  This one is also very light on system resources.

AVG anti virus. I have to say of all the free antivirus software out there this is one that is just plain good in all categories, I’ve been using this one for years now and it’s been constantly been updated and improved. The virus scanner is slow and a bit heavy on system resources but this one gets regular updates and includes free anti virus spyware, phishing and email scam protection as well.  If you don’t do any gaming, go for this one. It’s one good, free antivirus program.

Adaware personal edition. This is another program I’ve been using for years. Adaware personal edition specifically searches for spyware on your system.  There is no anti virus module so use one of the other free antivirus software programs and you’ll be good to go.

ClamWin. This is another free anti virus protection. A good feature is that it’s light on system resources, which would appeal to gamers. It does NOT have a real time scanner though; you’ll need to schedule scans yourself.

Spyware blaster. Even though this isn’t technically an antivirus program it’s worth mentioning since it’s incredibly useful and you should run it. This one detects browser hijacking, when you open up Internet explorer and it always goes to some page that you don’t want it to. Also has free antivirus spyware built in, another good feature.

Looking for an Antivirus for Gamers?

There you go, my personal list of some good, free antivirus software packages you can go and download right now.  Remember, there’s no reason why you can’t try them all and keep the ones that are the best fit for your needs.
