Now, more than ever, it’s very important to check your credit report every year.  It’s free, quick and simple.  Doing so will not only keep you up to date on how you’re doing financially, but will also allow you to possibly detect any malicious activity that may be going on as well as detect any errors that may have crept into your credit reports.  Follow the guide below to download and check your free credit report in just a few moments.

I suggest heading over to freecreditreport.com, or one of the many other sites where you can download and check your credit report for free.  Make sure you read the fine print and be aware that you should never have to provide credit card information.  You should be able to check your credit report for free once a year.

Once you’re at the site you plan on using just enter your personal information. Caution though, before you do, make sure the site looks reputable and there is a lock on your browser denoting a secure connection.  And again, never provide credit card info.

In order to complete the process you’ll have to enter your name, social security number as well as pass some security questions such as verifying your previous addresses, or perhaps any previous loans you may have had.

Learn how to get your completely free credit report.

After this you’ll be able to download and check your free credit report.  I want to say again though that you should steer clear from any sites that look like they want you to buy monitoring services or pay anything for this.  Your credit report should, by law, be free for you to check once a year.
