Eventually every driver needs to go out and get the best tires for their auto.  It doesn’t matter why, whether because of wear, an accident or even a flat that just can’t be fixed.  For the uninitiated finding the best tires for your auto can be a challenge, as the prices range from ridiculously cheap to outrageously expensive.  Here are some tips to help you find the best tires for your auto.

What you need to consider is whether you’ll be replacing 1, 2 or all 4 of your autos tires.  If you are not replacing all four tires than you need to make sure the new tires have the same rating as the existing ones (see below).  Also, make sure the new tires are on the rear, or drive, axle.   Having the best tires on your auto will do little good if they are on the wrong axle.

Right now low profile tires are very popular, but these may not be the best tires to get for your auto.  If you do decide to go with low profile tires make sure they can handle the weight of your auto.  In addition, make sure you get the proper size too.

Another consideration when looking for the best tires for your auto is if you deviate from the manufacturers recommended size you may throw off any computer features your vehicle may have, not just the speedometer.  Try not to deviate by more than 5% tire size.

Next consider the type of auto tires you want.  All season, winter or high performance?  It isn’t unheard of to own many sets of tires, based on what season it is.  Winter tires are great for the winter, but wear ridiculously fast on dry roads.  High performance are great for summer but are quite noise, and are pretty bad for winter driving.  All season are good, not great, for all seasons.  Consider this when looking for the best tires for your auto.

Now you need to determine the speed rating for the tires.  Ratings are S, T, U, H, V, W, Y and Z which represents the maximum speed you can go and still have a comfortable, smooth and safe ride. The best auto tires don’t automatically have to have a ‘Z’ rating so weigh this on how you drive.

And finally, to find the best tires for your auto make sure you read tire reviews on sites like Consumer Search and Consumer Reports.  They have tire reviews written by both experts and users just like yourself and can really help you find the best rated tires for your auto.
